Red Hat was sued over allegedly infringement of the US patent no 6,101,502. You know my opinions about software patents (for those of you who doesn't know - I am an opponent :) but more interesting is what Florian Mueller on his blog www.no-lobbyists-as-such.com says about Red Hat's representative's actions in the field of the politics and lobbying about the very famous draft of the Directive on the Patentability of Computer Implemented Inventions.

Nice move Panda! Check www.pandasoftware.info website. I will check this page often because it's a part of my "scientific research" interests. I hope they will update it frequently too. Only this "cybercrime" term is not precise. But it should be a long lecture about criminal law principles.

I would say something like that. Hey content owners, do not be afraid of new business models. Hey lawmakers, do not produce "stupid" law! The Consumer Electronics Association proposes another version of such statements in its advertising published in the the Capitol Hill newspaper. You can see it on www.eff.org website (PDF file).
Laughing is healthy.

A lot of funny ads on www.sztuka-reklamy.info website. There is a very important sentence summing up the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival. "All forecasts show that soon or later the border between advertisings meant for TV stations and those for internet will fade away entirely". Also check what price was won by Marc Ecko and the team. Details on www.sztuka-reklamy.info website.
Privacy vs. "piracy".
Tomasz Rychlicki @ 25.06.2006
Since a long time it is a very interesting issue about the "conflict" of rights. See RIAA's actions in P2P networks etc. Beyond all dubt Microsoft should protect its copyright but who will protect users privacy from Microsoft? Check this software called RemoveWGA.exe avaliable on www.firewallleaktester.com website. Besides you may always look for releases such as Windows.Genuine.Advantage.Validation.v1.5.530.0.CRACKED-ETH0 or any others.

News from WIPO and OHIM.
Tomasz Rychlicki @ 21.06.2006
I will not publish here news about WIPO's and OHIM's activites anymore (unless there will be some "scandal"). I decided to do that because I am really busy doing smething else. I wrote (and I will write) some articles:
I concluded (after some time ;) that there is no need to double such information. Just sign yourself to subscribe@oami.europa.eu and www.wipo.int/pressroom/en.

Oh boy. Another comics. Check www.themorningnews.org and www.geekculture.com websites. One is for sure. I have no chances to work for RIAA, MPAA, MPA, IFPI, ZAiKS, ZPAV and others (collecting societes, organizations etc.) for publishing here such infos like in this month. Well I will cite Eric Cartman from South Park. "Look how much I care! Look how much!". Check South Park episode 407 - Cherokee Hair Tampons script. You may watch this movie online on www.piczo.com website (15th minute).

Hello world! First at all there is no such right as "digital right". Period. Secondly "Digital Rights" Management systems do not work and will not work. Simple example. Bruce Springsteen recorded a tribute album "We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Session" which was released with some "DR"M. About the tribute's irony read on www.blogcritics.org website. This so called "digital rights" management system did not stop some people to rip this music and release it:
Bruce_Springsteen-We_Shall_Overcome-The_Seeger_Sessions-(DVD)-2006-LzY
Bruce_Springsteen-We_Shall_Overcome_The_Seeger_Sessions_(Bonus_DVD)-2006-uF
Bruce_Springsteen-We_Shall_Overcome-The_Seeger_Sessions-2006-RNS
Is there someone who still would like to "promote better law" (IFPI's synonym for lobbying) for "DR"M? Do not let you to stupefy. Just check and support www.defectivebydesign.org website and this movement.

I am not a big football fan. So does Mark Frauenfelder one of www.boingboing.net website owners. They received an "anticipation letter" from Baker & McKenzie LLP in London lately. This letter concerns the possibility of unauthorized streaming and downloading of FIFA World Cup matches. Well, Paul Boutin publishes informations how to watch such streams. Check www.paulboutin.weblogger.com website if you are interested. You may find this link to www.mozilla.com and Google and Nike undertaking useful too.
There are some warez releases in the football subject too:
World.Cup.2006.Group.A.Germany.vs.Poland.HDTV.XViD-W4F is one of many. Since downloading (and especially watching ;) is legal in Poland I wish you a lot of fun.

There are contamination's licences on the software market. I was wondering what is the name for the licence for a non software work which includes different licences. Mixed? I drew a simple illustration (PNG file, 121 KB), which one part (background color in the RGB scale: R:239, G:239, B:239) I release on a CC licence. Let's say the Creative Commons Attribution 2.5 License. The another part of this illustration (background color in the RGB scale: R:167, G:134, B:86) I release on a custom copyright licence (something like that: you need my consent to use this part of the image in any kind of works except typical (non-commercial) use in the computer networs, etc.). Please contact me to suggest how would you name a licence for the whole illustration. :)

Check www.bolekilolek.pl website (in Polish, I am sorry). There are some informations about co-autorship and how courts procedings took place in this issue. I recalled myself another "confusion" about those urchins. More details in the article on www.rzeczpospolita.pl website. Alfred Ledwig (co-author) sent a protest letter to Rzeczpospolita magazine (I still wonder why to them) against Roman Nehrebacki (heir of another co-author) who allegedly used images of Bolek and Lolek during his election campaing to the Polish Parliament.

And please do not get me wrong I do not support crimes against copyright. As a creator and an author I fully support such actions if commited with the respect of law (not guilty until proven, in dubio pro reo, proper and legal way of actiong of enforcement institutions, etc.) I do not like the way some organizations and businesses act to protect or to lobby their interests. Regarding to the conflict of values just check www.linuxp2p.com website.
Tomasz Rychlicki @ 01.06.2006
I really like this www.captaincopyright.ca website and I support such actions if they are prepared _very well_. There are also some comments about its TOS on www.boingboing.net website. I like this part especially: "You are not permitted to copy or cut from any page or its HTML source code to the Windows(tm) clipboard (or equivalent on other platforms) onto any other website". I'd like to ask an author of this website if s/he knows about a "right to quote"? It is based on Polish copyright law article 29 sec.1. (unified text: Dziennik Ustaw from 2000. No 80, pos. 904 with later changes). Good luck with suing me then. BTW it was fun to colour the Captain Copyright image before I put it on this website. At last today is the International Children's Day. All the best kids! :)
