Pimp my ride or pimp my Kit Kat

Tomasz Rychlicki @ 23.04.2006

Check recipes on www.pimpmysnack.com website. I wonder what trademark's owners of this products would say. Or maybe it is a "food hacking"? Should such "food reverse engineering" be prohibited? You could use DRM on the snack. ;)

Law throw up

Tomasz Rychlicki @ 22.04.2006

Well I shared some thoughts about copyright law in calligraphy works this month. I got an abstract for my article about copright issues in the graffiti art almost ready. What do you think about all those licensing issues when an almost unknow author (I know it sounds funny but graffiti writers may know what do I mean ;) "abandons" its work? Anyway. Big thanks to Artur (www.zawiasinski.net) for help in some other articles. Not too many people read this so I'll immodestly brag about myself. My second article about copyright issues in illegal music distribiution over Internet will be published in "The Computer and Telecommunications Law Review" (Sweet and Maxwell).

Iai

Tomasz Rychlicki @ 21.04.2006

Have you ever wonder about copyright in the art of writing? I mean the calligraphy. Well some people think computers, e-mails, electronic documents killed this art. I do not agree. It is just a different medium. We have got many new typefaces being created each year it is an art too and a subject of copyright/industrial property law (depends on the legal system you seek a protection for such creation). Some of such typefaces are even distributed according to free licences, just check www.graphicsngraphicdesign.com and www.dafont.com websites and do a research if you look for more. Based on the kanji in the topic I thought about anoter issue. All traditional Japanese martial arts schools kept its techniques in secret for long period of time I thought about an analogy with the know-how. Thanks to good people and the Internet we got sites like iai.whaleeaters.org. "You may freely redistribute these movies for the sake of the prosperity of Iai arts". Domo arigato gozaimashita.

Mitsubishi logo and Mon

Tomasz Rychlicki @ 20.04.2006

First impression seeing this post is that You probably wonder what has in common Mitsubishi famous trademark with the coat of arms? The second symbol in the topic is a Japanese coat of arms called "mon". I got today a book titled "Japanese Heraldry" by Hugo Gerhard Ströhl from my friend (good luck Tomasz with your 1st dan exam in Sunday, hajime sensei!) at last. This book is published by the Diamond Books, more info about it on www.diamondbooks.pl website (in Polish and I'm really sorry). Witold Nowakowski writes in the preface "Rich merchant families used mon as a form of a trade mark/symbol on wares, boards and prints (...) the kamon stylistic lasted in the current Japanese indutrial/trade designs. Just see symbols of known corporations, airlines or building contractors". As Mr Nowakowski writes even the author of this book mentioned "its cleary visible which you may notice as well that Japanese coat of arms offer our draughtsmen great trademark's designs". It was in 1906. I wish you good reading.

I went to the cinema to see "Ice Age 2". I took a picture (JPEG, 54 KB) of an info page which was displayed at the ticket machine. It says that:

Is there any Polish lawyer who would like try to enforce this Multikino's rules as pictured? Or is this only another American import of funny pseudolegal rules into the Polish legal system? Anyway. Check www.brendamake.com and www.monochrom.at websites with another "warnings".
